Accounting Program Outcomes


Graduates in the Accounting Specialist associate degree program can find employment in the public and private sectors as bookkeepers, accounting and auditing clerks, accountants and billing and posting clerks. In the Allegheny County area, average entry-level salaries range from $21,770–$22,190 and average overall salaries range from $28,750–$31,530. Over 300 annual openings are expected in the Three Rivers area1 and over 1,400 annual openings are projected in Pennsylvania through 20183.

National Level:
On a national level, bookkeeping, accounting, and auditing clerks held about 2.1 million jobs in 2008 and are employed in nearly every industry. A minimum of an associate degree in business or accounting is required for some positions. In May 2008, the median annual wages of bookkeeping, accounting and auditing clerks were $32,510. The middle half of the occupation earned between $26,350 and $40,130. The top 10% of bookkeeping, accounting and auditing clerks earned more than $49,260 and the bottom 10% earned less than $20,9502.

Employment Growth:
Employment of bookkeeping, accounting and auditing clerks is projected to grow by 10% from 2008–2018, which is near the estimated average for all occupations. This occupation is one of the largest growth occupations in the economy, with about 212,400 new jobs expected over the projections decade2.
