Description
This course will identify issues of health and the health care system of the United States. Topics of rising health care costs, the under and uninsured will be presented. Cultural concepts of illness and suffering as they relate to societal structure will be presented.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
- Define terms such as health, illness, disease and suffering.
- Describe values and beliefs related to health and illness.
- Describe issues of costs, rationing, insurance, and managed care.
- Recognize problems of inequality in health care.
- Discuss the socialization of professional health care workers.
- Assess the impact of technology in health care provision and costs.
