ANT 104 - Native Amer-Indians of N. America

Description
This course is an ethnographic survey of Native tribes of North America (north of Mexico) from Paleoindians to contemporary tribes/nations. Possible fieldtrips are part of this course.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
- Identify Native people’s ethnic communities and cultural traditions.
- Discuss commonalities amongst these groups.
- Discuss variation in adaptations to specific environments.
- Deconstruct stereotypical images.
- Analyze theories of prehistory and history of the Indian presence in the contiguous United States.
- Discuss the effects of American government policy on Native Americans.
- Discuss language.
- Discuss myths, rituals and religion.
- Discuss cultural exchange. e.g., literature, poetry, music and art
- Describe the Native American experience.
- Discuss contemporary issues of Native American people.
