ETH 206 - Asian-American Studies Credits: 3 3 Lecture Hours
Description This course will explore the differences and similarities between the different cultures that originate from the continent of Asia. The factors that will be discussed include: cultural differences and similarities, religious differences and similarities, linguistic differences and similarities, and each group’s collective purpose for immigrating to America. Asian-Americans are often generalized as homogeneous, yet there are so many differences within this ethnic group. Learning Outcomes Identify the diversity that exists among Asian-Americans. Cite the various origins of Asian-Americans. Describe the history and experiences of Asians in their native countries. Compare their experiences upon their arrival to America. Explain how Asians have attempted to assimilate and maintain their original identity. Identify stereotypes of Asian-Americans and its negative consequences. List contributions to America by Asian-Americans.
