Description
The course explores the relationship between women and politics in different countries of the world. Women’s political status and participation will be examined within the cultural, social and economic context in which they live and operate. Women’s roles as citizens, voters, activists, freedom fighters, election candidates, leaders and development workers are particularly emphasized.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
- Explain the relationship between gender and politics in different countries of the world.
- Compare and contrast the status of women world over, while examining their cultural, religious, social and economic context.
- Identify movements concerning women’s suffrage and women’s rights.
- Analyze women’s participation in the electoral processes of different electoral systems and their representation in national legislatures & executives.
