PSY 115 - Stress Management Credits: 1 1 Lecture Hours
Description This course helps students develop a research-based understanding of the manifestation of stress. Students develop stress management skills through the application of techniques for physical, mental and emotional wellness. Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
- Describe the role of the central nervous system, autonomic nervous system and neuroendocrine pathways in the acute and chronic stress response.
- Analyze the major psychological theories explaining the origins of stress.
- Identify the emotional, cognitive, behavioral, physical symptoms and consequences of stress.
- Apply the following stress management techniques to interpersonal and occupational stressors: time management, cognitive restructuring, mindfulness, relaxation and effective communication.
- Explain the necessity of proper nutrition, exercise and sleep.
- Develop a personal program of stress management.
