RES 118 - Respiratory Pharmacology

Description
The study of respiratory pharmacology with emphasis on the properties of medications and their effects on the patient. The competencies a respiratory care practitioner must demonstrate to be safe and effective will be stressed. This course requires a per credit health career fee; check the tuition and fee schedule for the current rate.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
- Recognize the indications of bronchodilator therapy.
- Select the necessary medication to achieve bronchodilation.
- Describe the difference between a parasympatholytic and mucokinetic agent and corticosteroids.
- Describe the method of action, classification and affects on the autonomic nervous system of commonly administered aerosolized medications.
