Description
This course is intended to be a first level introductory art course for the beginning art student, as well as the student seeking a humanities elective in the visual arts. The student’s appreciation of art is developed through a multicultural perspective on art history, the elements and principles of design, aesthetics, critical evaluations, projects and attendance at a real or virtual art show.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
- Identify the elements and principles of design within works of art.
- Evaluate artwork and create formal written criticism.
- Classify artwork by geographic/cultural origin, era, style, movement and medium.
- Differentiate between the psychological, social and political concepts of the visual arts.
- Create original artworks demonstrating techniques such as drawing, painting or photography.
