BIO 123 - Medical Biology and Terminology

Description
This course provides students with a working knowledge of the medical biology and terminology used by medical personnel. The student becomes competent in the use of basic terms of anatomy, physiology and the pathology of the human body. The terminology is presented system by system. This course does not fulfill the science requirement for graduation in a degree program.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
- Identify medical terms by dividing them into their component parts.
- Demonstrate proper phonetic pronunciation of medical terms.
- Spell medical terms correctly.
- Identify accepted medical abbreviations.
- Relate medical terms to the structure and function of the human body.
- Demonstrate the use of medical terms involved in disease processes and pathology.
- Apply terminology to clinical procedures and tests.

- Rules that govern the pronunciation and formation of medical terms
