EDT 103 - Overhead Lineworker Maintenance 1 Credits: 3 3 Skills Lab Hours
Description This course provides an overview of electrical transmission and distribution systems. The course focuses on the recognition, safe application and care of necessary tools and equipment. Students gain knowledge necessary to pass the commercial driver’s license permit test. Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
- Define terms associated with interconnected power systems.
- Identify and define components and features of transmission, sub-transmission, and distribution systems.
- Demonstrate ability to select, inspect and use fall restrict climbing equipment and tools.
- Demonstrate ability to select, inspect and sharpen climbing hooks.
- Climb and work on a pole safely.
- Tie six basic knots.
- Identify and know the uses of helper tools.
- Identify and properly use different types of wire cutters.
- Identify and properly use preforms, anchors and wire sleeve sizes.
- Interpret transmission and distribution standards and poles.
- Demonstrate ability to adhere to all required vehicular safety policies.
- Demonstrate ability to obtain a Commercial Driving License (CDL).
