EDU 141 - Diverse Learners Credits: 1 1 Lecture Hours
Description This course is designed for teachers and others who work with diverse populations in educational systems. The course will focus on a wide range of diversity including language, culture, socioeconomic status, learning styles and exceptionalities. Practical examples of differentiated and adaptive instruction will be presented for use in the classroom. The course will also explore the ways diversity can influence student learning. Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
- Demonstrate an awareness of cultural, ethnic and socioeconomic diversity.
- Adapt instruction appropriate for culturally and linguistically diverse students.
- Discuss language, culture, family and community values and how they influence student learning.
- Develop strategies to improve access to curriculum in all content areas for students with limited English skills.
