Description
Students in this course explore human resource functions in hospitality settings focusing on development of knowledge and skills needed by managers. Supervisory roles within organizations are analyzed with emphasis on recruitment, selection, staff training and development, legal issues, performance appraisal, motivational strategies, public relations and maintenance of effective environments.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:

Describe functions of human resources and public relations.
Examine managerial policies, procedures, practices and advertising.
Identify public relations issues related to employees and guests of hospitality facilities including crisis management.
Formulate decisions in relation to ethical practices and public relations.
Demonstrate skills managers require to implement effective human resource programs including diversity.
Determine consumer reactions and buying habits for hospitality organizations.
