HEO 101 - Heavy Equipment Regulation and Safety 1

Description
This course equips students with rigorous safety training for personal and equipment handling within the Heavy Equipment Operator field. Industry regulations and safe work practices are covered including hands-on opportunities for inspecting equipment and mastering emergency procedures. The course prepares students for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Construction Outreach completion card and explores pipeline construction and Department of Transportation qualifications.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:

  1. Achieve certification from the National Safety Council in life-saving and emergency procedures.
  2. Distinguish basic safety concerns pertinent to the construction sector.
  3. Articulate the evolution and current state of apprenticeship and labor/management dynamics.
  4. Follow prescribed protocols for operating various forklifts safely within construction.
  5. Identify hazards specific to forklift operation in the construction context.
  6. Communicate effectively, employing industry-standard signals and terminologies.
  7. Perform hand signaling crucial for industry-specific communications.
  8. Detail tasks exclusive to Operating Engineers in pipeline construction and distribution.
  9. Complete the requirements for OSHA Construction Outreach and Safeland USA certifications.
  10. Fulfill the National Safety Council’s First Aid/CPR certification prerequisites.
  11. Satisfy the conditions for Powered Industrial Certification Operator mandated by OSHA.
