HLS 207 - Homeland Security and Emergency Mgmt Credits: 3 3 Lecture Hours
Description In this course, students learn to apply a management perspective and understanding of organizations and potential homeland security events. Students focus on U.S. policies and programs to address the hazard posed by international and domestic terrorism, particularly the risks of weapons of mass destruction since 9/11. Students explore mitigation, prevention, planning, preparedness, readiness, response and recovery efforts as related to homeland security events. Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
- Outline the management issues related to a major homeland security event.
- Summarize organizations involved in homeland security.
- Explain mitigation efforts.
- Identify prevention, preparation and readiness techniques.
- Describe national incident response capabilities.
- Explain recovery efforts should a homeland security event occur.
- Evaluate Homeland Security and Emergency Management services and systems.
