HPE 128 - Physical Conditioning and Weight Training 1 Credits: 2 3 Activity Hours
Description In this course, students evaluate their own physical fitness status. With the help of the instructor, students design a physical conditioning program to meet personal goals and interests. Areas of concentration are cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, body composition, muscular strength and muscular endurance. Activities selected involve aerobic, resistive and flexibility exercises. This course emphasizes proper techniques, purpose of each exercise, safety and how to get expected results from an individualized physical conditioning program. Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
- Apply knowledge of exercise physiology concepts to physical activity.
- Examine the difference between programs designed to develop health-related/sport-related components of fitness.
- Design a physical activity program to enhance cardiovascular endurance that employs concepts of exercise physiology.
- Describe the training principles for improving muscular strength, muscular endurance and flexibility.
- Explain the principles of body composition and weight management.
- Design a personalized physical activity program using personal health information and physical fitness test results while also evaluating the program’s effectiveness.
- Adapt activities for safety after examining personal health limitations.
- Demonstrate personal improvements in the health-related components of fitness.
- Sustain a personalized program of regular physical activity by consistently demonstrating a commitment and employing the necessary skills.
