MMT 131 - Intro to OSHA/Industrial Hygiene

Description
This course introduces students to the foundational principles of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Industrial Hygiene. Encompassing critical topics mandated by OSHA’s Outreach Training Program Guidelines, the course culminates with students earning an OSHA 10 General Industry Training card upon successful completion. It emphasizes the application of OSHA standards in diverse industrial settings, the understanding of safety compliance and the role of hygiene practices in maintaining a safe workplace.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:

  1. Define key terms such as OSHA, the OSH Act, the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and fundamental industrial hygiene concepts.
  2. Explain the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), the significance of walking and working surfaces, exit routes and the principles of hazard communication.
  3. Describe the process of handling materials, managing hazardous materials and the essentials of electrical safety and health programs.
  4. Outline the OSHA outreach training program guidelines.
