PAL 102 - Paralegal Orientation Credits: 1 1 Lecture Hours
Description In this course, students explore the paralegal profession through an overview of the career field, educational requirements, ethical standards, areas of specialization and work environment settings. They examine certifications, professional associations and the roles and responsibilities of paralegals. Students also identify ethical issues that may arise and develop strategies for meeting their educational and professional goals. The course provides foundational knowledge about the paralegal career path and the skills needed for success. Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
- Describe the role and responsibilities of paralegals in various law office settings.
- Identify areas of legal specialization and the skills required for success.
- Examine ethical issues that may arise in a law office environment.
- Construct a professional development plan to meet educational and career goals as a paralegal.
