PAL 105 - Family Law Credits: 3 3 Lecture Hours
Description This course provides an overview of major topics in Pennsylvania family law including divorce, child custody and support, equitable distribution of assets and adoption. Students study the Pennsylvania Divorce Code and related rules and procedures. Key responsibilities of paralegals practicing in family law are explored with an emphasis on preparing documents such as divorce complaints, separation agreements, child custody orders and support petitions. Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
- Explain the roles and responsibilities of paralegals in family law practice.
- Analyze laws and procedures in Pennsylvania family law using legal research techniques.
- Prepare documents filed with the courts in domestic or family law proceedings.
- Calculate financial obligations such as child support, alimony and equitable distribution of assets using Pennsylvania statutes and guidelines.
