PAL 121 - Estates and Trusts 1

Description
This course provides students an introduction to estates and trusts, including lifetime trusts established during a person’s lifetime as well as trusts and estates set up upon death. Students examine fundamental concepts relating to property, wills, estate planning and administration.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:

  1. Explain key concepts related to property, trusts, wills and estate planning.
  2. Identify property types in an estate and the steps necessary for probate or nonprobate distribution.
  3. Access authoritative databases and publications to resolve inquiries lacking immediately apparent responses regarding estates and trusts legal topics.
  4. Assess particular circumstances to identify applicable legal tools for family structure, healthcare decisions and financial support concerns.
  5. Draft documents involved in estate and trust matters.
  6. Explain the legal and ethical responsibilities of estate professionals to beneficiaries, courts and other relevant parties.
