THE 154 - Introduction to Cinema Credits: 3 3 Lecture Hours
Description In this course, students analyze the development of motion pictures through a critical survey. They examine the literacy, technical, social and cultural history of film. By combining study from a historical and technical text with critical analysis of films, students gain an understanding of cinematic techniques and how the medium has evolved. Students assess key aspects of film to comprehend its ongoing impact. Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
- Define technical terms and phases of film pre-production, production and post-production.
- Identify functions of film personnel.
- Interpret a film within the social/cultural context of its production and viewing.
- Identify the basic psychological theories used to analyze audience perception of film.
- Identify film genre.
