WLD 201 - Prep for Welding Certification Credits: 3 2 Lecture Hours 2 Lab Hours
Prerequisites: WLD 102
Description This is an advanced course in shielded metal arc welding procedures to prepare students for industrial certification. Students learn to perform welding techniques such as single V-groove welded butt joints with backing strips in the flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions. All students follow the American Welding Society (AWS) code specifications while performing these skills. This course requires additional fees for testing materials and AWS certification. Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
- Demonstrate the welding procedure for plate certificating using the AWS code specifications.
- Set up and prepare single V-groove welded butt joints with backing strips in all positions using AWS specifications.
- Pass the D1.1 D1.5 AWS test on one-inch plate in the vertical position.
