DMS 228 - Doppler Vascular Sonography Credits: 4 3 Lecture Hours 2 Lab Hours
Prerequisites: DMS 203 , DMS 223C or DMS 224C , DMS 204 , DMS 210 Co-requisites: DMS 225C - Ultrasound Clinical 4/Abdomen-OB/GYN See program requirements for second spring semester according to specialty.
Description Theory and practical application are combined to advance the student’s technical skills in vascular imaging. Students explore valuable information on normal and pathological states of the peripheral vascular, cerebrovascular and abdominal vascular systems. Technical information such as spectral analysis in Doppler, hemodynamics of the circulatory system as well as scanning techniques and protocols are covered. During laboratory, students utilize classroom theory in examining various vascular systems. This course requires a per credit health career fee; check the tuition and fee schedule for the current rate. Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
- Identify the vascular structures of the abdomen, cerebrovascular and peripheral vascular systems.
- Identify normal and abnormal hemodynamics of the cerebral, peripheral and abdominal vascular systems.
- Discuss the risk factors and symptoms of vascular disease.
- Outline the protocol/techniques of vascular imaging of the abdomen, cerebrovascular and peripheral vascular systems.
- Explain the diseases associated with each vascular system.
- Differentiate the normal and abnormal sonographic characteristics of the cerebral, peripheral and abdominal vascular systems from normal vessels using 2-D scanning techniques.
- Analyze normal and abnormal sonographic findings color and spectral Doppler waveforms of the cerebral, peripheral and abdominal vascular systems.
