FLM 122 - Mask Making and Casting 1

Description
This course introduces students to practical film special effects. By progressing through the course, students understand sculpting and molding techniques. Students apply this knowledge by sculpting, molding and casting a latex mask of their own design.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
- Identify a basic understanding of sculpture in regards to mask making and how it relates to film special effects through readings.
- Examine how to sculpt a mask using water-based clay through a model.
- Build the mold for a mask using traditional stone molding.
- Design the cast for a mask out of latex.
- Modify the mask using paint techniques to arrive at a finished version.
- Assess mask making and casting technique considering constructive criticism from a critique.
