FRE 102 - Elementary French 2 Credits: 3 3 Lecture Hours
Prerequisites: Completion of FRE 101 with a grade of “C” or better
Description In this course, students expand on the French language skills learned in Elementary French 1 as they continue improving their communicative abilities. Students deepen their listening, speaking, reading and writing proficiency through class activities and assignments. Additionally, students further their exploration of the diverse cultures of the French-speaking world. The goal is for students to advance their vocabulary, grasp of grammar concepts and cultural understanding. It is recommended that within one academic year of completing this course, students enroll in the next level French course (FRE 201) to continue practicing and enhancing their French language skills. Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
- Integrate linguistic and cultural understanding of the French language to effectively apply French vocabulary, grammar, and cultural awareness in diverse situations.
- Translate level-appropriate material.
- Write more detailed sentences and paragraphs in French.
- Communicate at a basic or better level in French.
- Use a high-novice to low-intermediate level vocabulary in and out of the classroom.
- Identify the difference between French and English grammar.
- Compare and contrast cultural differences among French speaking countries.
