AVT 100 - Discover Aviation, Experimental Credits: 3 3 Lecture Hours
Description This course is designed to introduce aviation to the novice student. Students will learn the origins of aviation through present day and into the future. Students will be provided an overview of each major course comprising the Aviation Technology program. Subject matter pertaining to airspace, navigation, meteorology, aerodynamics, safety, legal, systems and cross-country planning will be introduced. In-class learning will be reinforced using Redbird Advanced Aviation Training Devices, with simulator hours interspersed throughout the semester. The course will conclude with discussions regarding vocations in aviation such as commercial pilots, air traffic controllers, aviation management personnel and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle pilots. New students will have the opportunity to experience aviation prior to deciding their career choice. Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
- Discuss the history of aviation.
- Identify aviation concepts that can be used in daily activities.
- Apply aviation concepts to other disciplines.
- Examine aviation as a vocation.
- Apply learned concepts to simulated flight.
- Demonstrate maneuvers during simulated flight.
