MAT 090X - Algebra Fundamentals, Experimental Credits: 5 5 Lecture Hours
Prerequisites: Prerequisites: MAT 080 Minimum C grade
Placement test into MAT 080 or MAT 090
Description This course starts with an in-depth review of arithmetic topics before moving on to topics covered in an “algebra fundamentals” course. Students will perform operations on polynomials and rational expressions and solve linear equations that include such expressions. At the end MAT090X, students will have the same knowledge as those who take MAT 090 and will be ready to take the next level math class. Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
- Perform operations on integers, fractions and decimals.
- Solve linear equations, literal equations and linear inequalities in one variable.
- Solve application problems leading to linear equations in one variable.
- Perform operations on polynomial expressions.
- Factor polynomial expressions.
- Simplify rational expressions
- Solve rational equations.
- Graph linear equations in two variables by plotting solutions.
- Apply the Pythagorean theorem.
Listed Topics
- Operations on integers, fractions and decimals
- Linear equations, literal equations and inequalities in one variable
