AVT 111L - Instrument Pilot Simulator

Credits: 1
1 Skills Lab Hours

Co-requisites: AVT 111

Description
AVT-111L offers immersive, hands-on training in a simulated instrument flight lab environment. Through advanced simulators, students experience scenarios that closely mimic instrument flight conditions. The lab is structured to enhance understanding and application of FAA Instrument Flight Rules (IFR), instrument approach procedures, flight planning and interpretation of meteorological data. This optional lab aims to prepare students for the FAA Instrument Pilot Knowledge Exam and to instill confidence in handling instrument flight operations under various conditions.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this lab, the student will:

  1. Demonstrate instrument flight procedures within a simulation with proficiency.
  2. Interpret FAA Instrument Flight Rules to effectively manage simulated flight scenarios.
  3. Outline various instrument approaches utilizing both analog and electronic flight instruments.
  4. Evaluate weather information to guide simulated flight planning and operations.
  5. Adapt to different simulated instrument flight environments with appropriate strategies.
  6. Assess decision-making skills in managing risks while maintaining pilot fitness during complex instrument flying scenarios.
  7. Operate within air traffic control parameters, employing clearances and services efficiently in simulated instrument flights.
Listed Topics
  1. Instrument Pilot theory application
  2. Resource management for crew
  3. Decision-making in aeronautics
  4. Instrumentation use
  5. Flight simulation
  6. Meteorology
  7. Navigation
