SHM 209 - Advanced AutoCAD Applications

Description
This course builds upon the AutoCAD foundations established in SHM 204 , focusing on creating intricate working drawings for the sheet metal industry. Students advance their proficiency in AutoCAD, developing complex shop fabrication and field installation drawings. The course also incorporates Microsoft Word and Excel to document project schedules and job documents, refining technical documentation skills such as file organization and storage. 


Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will: 

  1. Generate detailed HVAC shop drawings using model and paper space techniques. 
  2. Create HVAC shop drawings incorporating 2D and 3D designs against architectural backgrounds. 
  3. Determine plotter and printer setups utilizing AutoCAD Plot Style Manager for precise output. 
  4. Format the AutoCAD workspace using Dashboard and Tool Palettes for optimized efficiency. 
  5. Specify advanced viewports and dynamic blocks to enhance drawing interactivity. 
  6. Organize sheet sets for shop and as-built drawings, ensuring archival standards. 
  7. Produce requests for information (RFI) and transmittals utilizing Microsoft Word. 
  8. Assemble job-related documentation for project management, including specifications, work orders and transmittals.
