AVT 211 - Flight Theory/Commercial

Credits: 4
4 Lecture Hours

Prerequisites: AVT 111  AVT 115
Co-requisites: AVT 205

Description
This lab component of the AVT-211 course is meticulously designed to complement the theoretical aspects of commercial piloting with practical, hands-on experience in a simulated environment. Utilizing advanced flight simulators, AVT-211L offers students the opportunity to apply their knowledge of FAA regulations, complex aircraft operations and Crew and Single-Pilot Resource Management (CRM/SRM) in realistic flying scenarios. This course focuses on developing a deeper understanding of the human factors affecting flight, enhancing decision-making skills and preparing students for the practical challenges of commercial flying. The lab aims to solidify the students’ readiness for the FAA Commercial Pilot Knowledge Exam and subsequent real-world flight situations.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:

  1. Utilize theoretical understanding of commercial regulations and complex aircraft operations in simulated flight scenarios.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to plan, execute and manage simulated flights in complex aircraft, focusing on high-altitude operations and commercial maneuvers.
  3. Apply CRM/SRM skills effectively in a simulated environment.
  4. Respond to simulated scenarios involving stress, illness, fatigue and other human factors, reinforcing the importance of a pilot’s fitness for flight.
  5. Develop Aeronautical Decision-Making (ADM) skills, with an emphasis on risk management, through various simulated flight conditions.
  6. Perform accurate weight and balance calculations for takeoff and landing in a simulated setting.
  7. Critically assess their performance in the simulator to identify areas for improvement and strategies for operational efficiency.
