PAL 110 - Torts

Description
This course provides an in-depth introduction to tort law, focusing on civil wrongs and their appropriate remedies. Students explore fundamental principles in key areas, including intentional torts, negligence, strict liability, product liability, nuisance and common defenses. Through case analysis and practical applications, students develop the knowledge and skills necessary to evaluate and apply tort law to real-world scenarios.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:

  1. Identify the fundamental principles of traditional tort law, including intentional and non-intentional torts, with a particular focus on negligence and strict liability.
  2. Evaluate various defenses related to civil injuries.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to critically analyze different scenarios and determine applicable legal defenses.
  4. Assess the unique elements and implications of intentional torts, non-intentional torts and strict liability.
  5. Apply the principles of negligence including duty of care, breach, causation and damages to various legal scenarios.
  6. Differentiate between various remedies and types of damages available in tort law including compensatory and punitive damages.
