CIT 254L - Ethical Hacking (Lab), Experimental

Description
This CMU-based certificate lab (CyberSim) is a hands-on course taught to accompany CIT 254 Ethical Hacking. The CyberSim Lab provides opportunities, using technical simulations to experience a start-up company’s network and role-play to simulate social interactions between interdisciplinary roles and positions of power within the organization. The lab is a low-risk environment for students to practice technical skills in concert with communication and social competencies, mirroring a real-world work setting. This lab is open to students enrolled in any CIT-254 section and is taught in a hybrid methodology with five required in-person meetings.
Learning Outcomes
  1. Demonstrate the ability to perform security assessment methodologies involving web server attacks, application hacking, System Query Language (SQL) injection, and mobile platform hacking.
  2. Perform data analysis related to information security.
  3. Describe compliance regulations and professional codes of conduct related to information security.
  4. Apply information security tools such as sniffers, port scanners, vulnerability scanners, footprinting, network discovery, and malware detection.
  5. Implement cryptography, public key infrastructure, and digital signature procedures.
  6. Research system vulnerabilities.
  7. Identify common security threats and attack vectors to a system.
  8. Understand best practices for cyber security integration.
  9. Understand regulatory requirements.
