HIS 213 - Twentieth Century World History Credits: 3 3 Lecture Hours
Description In this course, students explore the global history of the 20th century. It covers world cultures, revolutions, political systems and key conflicts. Students also examine efforts toward peacebuilding and their impact on modern history. Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
- Integrate the global history of the significant social, political, scientific, technological and economic forces that shaped the modern world.
- Describe the causes and consequences of World War I and World War II.
- Compare and contrast events that influenced 20th century revolutions.
- Define various ideologies including nationalism, socialism, communism and fascism.
- Appraise the impact of decolonization and independence movements after World War II.
- Articulate the reasons for the Cold War, the spread of communism and the ultimate collapse of the Soviet Union.
- Evaluate the relationship between developed and underdeveloped nations.
- Assess the validity, bias and relevance of primary and secondary sources to construct well-supported historical arguments.
