ART 103 - Art History - Ancient Credits: 3 3 Lecture Hours
Description This course explores the evolution of visual arts and artistic movements from prehistory to Pre-Renaissance, fostering an understanding and appreciation of their significance. Emphasizing the art of Western civilization, it also draws comparisons to key artistic achievements from other cultures, providing a broad perspective on human creativity. Students examine works of visual art and architecture in relation to their aesthetic qualities, historical relevance and social contexts, gaining insight into how art reflects and shapes human experience. Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
- Identify key artistic periods from prehistory to the Pre-Renaissance.
- Interpret works within their historical, cultural and social frameworks.
- Evaluate artistic techniques, aesthetics and stylistic elements.
- Combine visual analysis and critical thinking to interpret meaning.
