ART 181 - Life Drawing, Experimental

Prerequisites: ART 109  

 
Description
This course is a continuation of skills acquired in Drawing 1 with a focus on the depiction of the Human Form. Life Drawing 1 further develops drawing techniques with a greater awareness of composition and concept as it relates to the human body.  Students continue with observational drawing to develop greater knowledge through the study of the human figure, life drawing and spatial perception. The addition of a stronger conceptual component with an individual creative approach is encouraged. Further study of analytical and communication skills as they relate to art are developed.


Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:

  1. Accurately observe and render the human figure from direct observation, demonstrating control of proportion, gesture, anatomy and spatial relationships.
  2. Apply line, value and color intentionally to articulate form, depth, light and expressive content.
  3. Demonstrate working knowledge of human anatomy, including major skeletal and muscular structures and integrate this knowledge into figure drawings.
  4. Translate three-dimensional form onto a two-dimensional picture plane, effectively using perspective, foreshortening and compositional strategies.
  5. Analyze historical and multicultural representations of the human figure and apply conceptual insights to original artwork.
  6. Critically evaluate and develop a cohesive body of figure drawings that demonstrates technical growth, conceptual development and effective use of visual art vocabulary.
