HLS 205 - Intro Homeland Sec Grant Writing/Grants Credits: 3 3 Lecture Hours This course will focus on the development and implementation of a Homeland Security Grants Program. Students will learn of the wide array of funding sources, filing deadlines and of the wide variety of formats that may be required when seeking health and safety, critical infrastructure protection and public safety grants. Specific Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) related guidelines will be reviewed and studied. Website links will be explored and information will be provided to identify grant sources appropriate for the agency needs. The student will draft at least one grant proposal for evaluation. The need for careful management, accountability and quality control of grants received will be re-enforced and a review of audit and best practice methodology will be reviewed.
