MAS 102 - Massage Therapy Principles/Procedures 2 Credits: 5 3 Lecture Hours 4 Lab Hours Prerequisites: BIO 103 or BIO 115 or BIO 161 ; MAS 101 Co-requisites: MAS 110 or PTA 101 ; MAS 111 or BIO 160 or BIO 175 or BIO 241
This course builds upon the techniques and approaches learned in MAS101 and provides students with the unique approach to massage known as seated or chair massage. Students continue to build upon previous skills in assessment and charting by documenting therapeutic outcomes. Benefits and precautions for chair massage are discussed. Students identify and analyze successful business practices and marketing techniques In the laboratory portion of the class, students practice advanced relaxation Swedish system techniques, relevant spa therapies, sports massage and seated massage techniques. To prepare students for possible medical emergencies, this course also provides training and certification in First Aid and Adult & Child CPR.
