PHS 107 - Introductory Astronomy Credits: 3 3 Lecture Hours This is a descriptive introduction to astronomy. Major topics of study include: the celestial sphere and the night sky, gravity and the dynamics of celestial bodies, telescopes and the nature of light, our moon, the planets and the sun, stars and their final outcomes (white dwarfs, supernovae, pulsars and black holes), the Milky Way and other galaxies, the origins and fate of the Universe, other solar systems and possibility of extra-terrestrial life.
