POL 103 - American Government Credits: 3 3 Lecture Hours This course investigates the development and evolution of the American political system. Students will be introduced to the unique structure, functions, and problems of the national government within the federal system. Close attention is given to the nature of and the controversies emerging from the interaction between political institutions. This includes analysis of the following concepts and topics: federalism, separation of power, check and balances, Bill of Rights, democracy, civil liberties, civil rights and political parties.
