CHM 202 - Organic Chemistry 2 Credits: 4 3 Lecture Hours 4 Lab Hours Prerequisites: CHM 201 or permission of instructor This course covers the chemistry of the organic compounds of carbon. This includes the bonding, structure (including stereochemistry), nomenclature, physical properties, reactions and reaction mechanisms. The dienes, aromatics, acids, acid derivatives, aldehydes, ketones, amines, carbohydrate, lipids and amino acids functional groups are studied in detail. Laboratory is an introduction to identification of organic compounds by spectroscopic and NMR data, and synthesis of organic compounds.
