DMS 104 - Cardiac Ultrasound Credits: 4 3 Lecture Hours 2 Lab Hours Prerequisites: DMS-102 and DMS-105 Co-requisites: PHY-127 and DMS-114C
This course focuses on the ultrasonic investigation of the heart. Echocardiography is viewed from both an historical, as well as state-of-the-art perspective. The anatomy and physiology, particularly the cross-sectional anatomy of the mediastinal contents, are reviewed. Echocardiograms representative of normal cardiac anatomy are presented and compared with examinations performed by other diagnostic modalities. Procedural and scanning techniques are presented, as well as sonographic positioning unique to echocardiography.
