BUS 101 - Introduction to Business

Description
This course is a survey of modern business practices. This course may not be taken if a student has earned six or more credits in other business courses.
Learning Outcomes
  1. Demonstrate a basic understanding of business organizations, their function, role and effect in the global economy.
  2. Recognize examples of the external business environments and predict their impact on global and domestic business.
  3. Explain the importance of ethical standards and social responsibility in the business environment.
  4. Explain the characteristics of the business cycle, how it depicts economic fluctuation and its related causes and measurements.
  5. List and define the regulatory and monetary powers of the Federal Reserve System.
  6. Describe potential barriers to international business and the strategies for participating in an increasingly global economy.
  7. Compare and contrast the major forms of business ownership.
  8. Define and give examples of the roles and functions of managers in an organization.
  9. Identify and explain the function of human resource management in an organization.
  10. Define the marketing function and demonstrate understanding of a customer focus using the elements of the marketing strategy.
  11. Interpret business performance as evidenced in financial statements.
  12. Describe the purpose and function of the capital markets both for the corporation and for the investor.
  13. Describe the role of financial management in the organization
