Description
This course is a survey of society’s definition of the nature and role of women, the actual conditions of women, and the feminist response to intellectual, social and political problems. This course will explore the history of women in society with a special emphasis on the United States.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
- Define the conceptualization of the role women have played in history.
- Compare and contrast women’s experience based on class and race.
- Explain women’s socialization in a historical context.
- Utilize a variety of historical methodologies to examine the conceptual framework of political vs. social history.
- Explain the variety of suffragist and feminist literature.
- Explain the dichotomy between traditional patriarchy and feminist historical analysis.
