Description
This course is a study of the principles, duties and mechanics of criminal justice procedures in the United States and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as they apply to search and seizure, arrest and investigations. Also considered is the evaluation of evidence and proof with regard to kind, degree, admissibility, competence and weight. The course emphasizes rules of evidence at the operational level of law enforcement.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:

Summarize the rules of evidence and their origin.
Describe the influence of court rulings on the rules of evidence.
Explain the concept of admissibility of evidence.
Outline the rules of procedure and their origin.
Summarize the importance of comprehensive report writing.
Describe the reasoning for the existence of rules and procedures in the criminal justice system.
Outline the importance of proper methods of testifying in court.
Discuss procedural processes utilized by the American criminal court system.
