For students with interest in teaching English abroad or moving on to undergraduate/graduate work in linguistics, the certificate provides them with a foundational core of concepts and training that allows them to pursue these goals. This certificate also provides professional development and skills for intercultural, international and local contexts where language is used.

Upon successful completion of the program, the graduate will:

  1. Utilize data to better understand the process of English language acquisition.
  2. Apply intercultural communication strategies to teaching practices.
  3. Create equitable lesson plans for ELL (English Language Learner) students using best practices.
  4. Demonstrate knowledge of social and cultural factors that influence ELLs through written assignments and discussion.
