Associate of Science
The Mechatronics Technology program provides skills and knowledge in five major areas: computer programming, electrical systems, mechanical systems, robotics and additive manufacturing (3D printing). Mechatronics technicians assist the design, development and engineering staff and work closely with others to install, maintain, modify and repair mechatronic systems, equipment and component parts. Students can pursue specializations through restricted electives. This technology training is relevant to several industries including the petrochemical sector, process technology, energy, manufacturing and supply chain and logistics. Students who pursue this degree benefit from a technical core set of courses that combine industry-recognized certification and quality college education.
Typical job titles can include advanced manufacturing technicians, systems integration, electrical and instrumentation technicians, robotics and automation technicians, electromechanical, process control, or industrial maintenance, field automation and supply chain technicians. This associate degree program may provide students with opportunities to pursue supervisory positions in the above fields.
Students who complete MEC-100 and MEC-102 sit for the Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC) Certified Production Technician (CPT) industry credential. This is a National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) endorsed credential. Students who complete MEC 107 and MEC 109 sit for the Manufacturing Technician Certification, offered by the Manufacturing Skills Institute. The cost of these certifications is included in the fees for the courses. There are additional, optional certification students may wish to pursue to enhance their employability.
Upon successful completion of the program, the graduate will:
- Install and operate instrumentation and process control devices across the spectrum of industries.
- Use quality and safety standards necessary for the operating, maintaining and repairing of automated equipment.
- Program, configure, troubleshoot and repair automated, industrial equipment for machining, assembly, chemical processing and logistic distribution.
- Utilize technical and organizational skills to effectively engage with team members and a diverse customer base.
