Associate of Science
The Art program provides a comprehensive foundation in studio practices, visual communication and art history, preparing students for transfer to a four-year institution. Emphasizing both conceptual development and technical proficiency, the curriculum includes foundational coursework and offers opportunities for focused study in two-dimensional media, three-dimensional media or graphic communications. Students cultivate critical thinking, aesthetic judgment and creative problem-solving skills valued in many creative fields. Graduates assemble a professional portfolio that supports successful transfer, facilitates initial employment opportunities within the visual arts sector or supports the development of a personal studio practice.
Upon successful completion of the program, the graduate will:
- Create a comprehensive portfolio demonstrating personal skill and artistic knowledge suitable for transfer to a four-year institution or employment.
- Apply technical and perceptual skills, including principles of design and color theory, to create and visually analyze two-dimensional and three-dimensional art forms.
- Utilize current and emerging technologies effectively in visual communication and artistic practice.
- Analyze art within historical and multicultural contexts, develop critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills and a sophisticated visual arts vocabulary.

Minimum Credits to Graduate: 63–65
1 Students should take a minimum of 18 additional credits or six additional courses in studio art and art history, emphasizing the area of the Bachelor’s degree or related fields of knowledge.
2 Students should take a minimum of three credits or one course in dance, music or theatre. Major Concentrations—drawing/painting, ceramics, three-dimensional media, photography or electronic media. Check campus for media capability. See the academic advisor and art faculty for specific program requirements among these art electives. |
