Associate of Science

The Art program provides a comprehensive foundation in studio practices, visual communication and art history, preparing students for transfer to a four-year institution. Emphasizing both conceptual development and technical proficiency, the curriculum includes foundational coursework and offers opportunities for focused study in two-dimensional media, three-dimensional media or graphic communications. Students cultivate critical thinking, aesthetic judgment and creative problem-solving skills valued in many creative fields. Graduates assemble a professional portfolio that supports successful transfer, facilitates initial employment opportunities within the visual arts sector or supports the development of a personal studio practice.

Upon successful completion of the program, the graduate will:

  1. Create a comprehensive portfolio demonstrating personal skill and artistic knowledge suitable for transfer to a four-year institution or employment.
  2. Apply technical and perceptual skills, including principles of design and color theory, to create and visually analyze two-dimensional and three-dimensional art forms.
  3. Utilize current and emerging technologies effectively in visual communication and artistic practice.
  4. Analyze art within historical and multicultural contexts, develop critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills and a sophisticated visual arts vocabulary.
