The Social Work Foundation, A.S., prepares students for entry-level positions in social service settings and for transfer to bachelor’s degree programs in social work or closely related fields. Grounded in generalist social work practice, the program emphasizes ethical engagement, cultural responsiveness, human behavior in the social environment and applied skills for working with individuals, families, groups and communities.
Students develop foundational knowledge of social work values, theory, policy and practice while examining the social and structural factors that influence access to services and well-being. Coursework integrates trauma-informed and public health perspectives, effective communication, case management and advocacy. A required course in artificial intelligence and digital literacy prepares students to use technology ethically and effectively in documentation, decision-making and professional practice.
The program is aligned with Council on Social Work Education–informed competencies and is designed to function within a coordinated, stackable credential structure that includes related Social Work certificates. Graduates are prepared for workforce entry or continued study in accredited social work programs.
Upon successful completion of the program, the graduate will:
- Apply social work values, ethics and professional standards to interactions with individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities.
- Analyze human behavior and social systems using biological, psychological, social and cultural frameworks.
- Demonstrate culturally responsive and trauma-informed approaches that promote equity, dignity and social justice.
- Utilize critical thinking, digital literacy and emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, to support ethical documentation, advocacy, policy awareness and service coordination in social work settings.
