Certificate
This four-year certificate program offers the qualifying applicant occupational education. Qualifying applicants are those covered by Third Party Agreements with their International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Locals, apprentices in the process of becoming Journeymen Wiremen or Journeymen Wiremen who have already completed IBEW apprenticeship programs.
Students have classroom, hands-on and on-the-job experiences in electrical work through their IBEW Local apprenticeship program. Upon completion of the curriculum and the job experience hours, the students are eligible to take the IBEW Journeyman Wireman Examination. Those who successfully complete the apprenticeship program and pass the examination receive proof of apprenticeship completion of an IBEW apprenticeship program. This proof allows graduates to work in commercial and industrial construction as skilled Journeymen Wiremen and in all aspects of the electrical and teledata industry.
For Applicants in the IBEW Local 5 Jurisdiction
Enrollment is limited. Apprentices are under Third Party Agreement sponsorship of the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC) of the IBEW Local 5. Applicants must apply through the IBEW Local 5 application process and meet the requirements outlined by the union, available on the IBEW Local 5 apprenticeship website (https://ibew5.org). Interested students can also contact the IBEW Local 5 at (412) 432-1400 for more information.
