The Entrepreneurial Design & Manufacturing (EDM) certificate prepares students with both the technical know-how of contemporary digital fabrication and the entrepreneurial foundations necessary to launch product-oriented ventures. Built as a one-year credential, this program cultivates hands-on prototyping abilities — ranging from digital design and additive/subtractive manufacturing to electronics and machining — while integrating essential entrepreneurship and business management skills. Students gain applied experience in innovation, ideation, design and manufacturing. The credential also serves as a ladder into a two-year A.S. degree, offering flexible options for immediate workforce entry or continued postsecondary advancement.
Upon successful completion of the program, the graduate will:
- Utilize digital design and rapid fabrication tools safely and effectively to develop functional prototypes.
- Apply design for manufacturing principles across additive, subtractive and hybrid fabrication workflows.
- Integrate electronics, soldering and computer-aided design (CAD)/computer-assisted manufacturing (CAM) applications into physical product development.
- Apply entrepreneurial thinking to assess market opportunities, project feasibility and cost-analysis for prototype products.
- Communicate design concepts and project outcomes professionally through written, visual and oral media.
